Scan finds no devices
- Confirm the selected adapter has an IP on the client LAN.
- Check Starting IP and Ending IP for the intended subnet.
- Disable an unrelated VPN temporarily if company policy allows.
- Verify Windows Firewall permissions for Wireborne on the current network profile.
- Try Quick first, then Thorough.
A network can block ICMP or multicast and still contain reachable devices. Thorough mode collects additional evidence but cannot bypass intentional segmentation.
Wi-Fi adapter not connected or a band is missing
- Use a physical Wi-Fi adapter supported by Windows.
- Install the manufacturer’s current driver.
- Confirm the adapter supports 5 GHz or 6 GHz as needed.
- Check that Wi-Fi is enabled even when Ethernet carries the main connection.
- Verify the access point actually broadcasts that band and SSID.
Phone cannot open the companion
- Place phone and laptop on the same non-isolated network.
- Keep the companion window open and rescan the current QR code.
- Allow the local Windows Firewall prompt.
- Avoid cellular-only, guest isolation, VPN tunneling, or client isolation.
- Check that the laptop has not changed adapters or IP addresses.
Internet speed test returns 429
The external server has rate-limited too many requests. Wait before retrying. Do not repeatedly select Start or run many tests back-to-back. If the issue persists after a reasonable cooldown, choose a different test server when available or try later.
Gauge looks lower than the service plan
Check the slowest link: laptop NIC, negotiated Ethernet/Wi-Fi rate, cable, switch port, router WAN/LAN ports, ISP provisioning, and remote server capacity. Connect by known-good multi-gig Ethernet for a controlled high-speed measurement.
Duplicate or incorrect device
Wireborne consolidates repeated observations by network identity. If the same IP and MAC still appear twice, save the project and include the example in a support request. If the maker or product is wrong, edit the project record; MAC vendor data can describe a component rather than the final device.
Project or PDF problem
- Use File → Save As and choose a local writable folder.
- Avoid editing or moving the file while it is open.
- Confirm the logo is PNG or JPG and can be read by the current Windows account.
- Preview the report, then open the exported PDF and inspect every page.
- If a project cannot reopen, preserve the file and contact support rather than overwriting it.
